Dr. Wei-Fen Chen received her Ph.D. in Communications and Media from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016. Before joining the Culture Lab, she served as a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Institute for Emerging Market Studies and the Institute for Advanced Study at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Her research focuses on the consumption practices of individuals experiencing broadly-defined social mobility, as well as their impact on social inequality and on a sustainable consumption-scape in global cities. She was a recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship, in additional to multiple grants in the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Her research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Culture, Qualitative Inquiry, and Young Consumers. The courses she taught in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign include Consumer Insight and Advertising and Society.
